10 Things To Do When You're Home During Spring Break

You might think all your friends are off on glorious trips to the Bahamas during Spring Break, and, some of them might be! But most people actually spend Spring Break at home. That might sound like THE WORST, and sure, we’d all rather be on the beach than in our living room. But when life gives you lemons, why not make a huge friggin glass of Lemonade and down it in front of life like a BOSS.

Here’s 10 things you can do during your lovely stay at home during Spring Break, and make the most of it!

1) MOVIE MARATHON

You’ve got some time on your hands and although we don’t encourage watching an entire series in one day, why not have a movie time every day? Pop some popcorn, throw some M&Ms in there, and watch a part of a series each day. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, are all great and entertaining options. Plus, The Avengers: Endgame is coming out very soon, so why not catch up on some Marvel movies and be ready for the big show?

2) SLEEP

What? We want you to sleep? YES! Sleeping is actually REALLY important for your health in every single way. Daylight Saving Time probably has you dragging yourself around already. So take some time this week and catch up on some z’s. Your brain will appreciate it and you’ll be fueled to really enjoy your day! We don’t encourage you to sleep every single day away, but when you’re on vacation sleeping in is part of the point! Relax!

3) BUILD A FORT

You’re too old for that, right? Psh. Whatever! You’re old enough to make an EPIC fort and you should totally relive your elementary days! You can do this inside or outside. Make it a competition between you and your friends if you want to, or just do it yourself! If you’re the oldest, you could even make the fort FOR your younger siblings and make their day awesome.

4) TEACH YOUR PET A TRICK

Training an animal to do something takes time. But guess what you have tons of during Spring Break? TIME! Ask your parents what your pet is allowed to have as a training treat and train your dog or cat (this takes more time…good luck) how to do a new trick. Things that usually work great are bits of their own food or cut up bits of cheese or meat. You don’t want to make your pet sick with too much food, or feed them something they shouldn’t have, so make sure you check with your parents and take breaks between training sessions.

5) BAKE!

Talk to your parents and let them know you want to try making some new recipes this week. Ask them what ingredients they’d be able to get for you, or go and get them yourself if you are able. You can fill your entire home with baked goods and even take some extras to a neighbor or a friend. Offer to make supper for your family or for someone you care about.

6) LEARN YOUR OWN HISTORY

Have you ever researched your own ancestry, or looked up to see where your family origins began? You may discover some pretty cool stuff in your background. If you have someone in your family who knows a lot about this, give them a call or stop by and ask them about it. Look through pictures and read old letters. Understanding your family background can be really interesting and rewarding. You’re probably related to Abraham Lincoln or something, right??

7) WRITE LETTERS

People don’t do this much anymore, and that’s why it’s so cool to get an actual hand written letter from someone! Get some paper and a pen and write letters to your family, your friends, or someone you appreciate and look up to. Fan mail is still a thing and many famous people you love actually read fan letters more than Social Media posts because they are more meaningful! Note: If you want to mail the letter, You’ll have to buy a stamp at the post office, you’ll need to put your address on the top left side of the envelope and the person you’re sending the letter to’s address in the middle of the envelope, and the stamp on the top right side of the envelope. If you’re confused, just ask the post office staff! You can check out our fun Paper Folding ideas to go that extra mile.

8) ORGANIZE YOUR ROOM

For some of you this sounds like the opposite of fun. But for others, this sounds like a great thing! Take some time to get rid of some old stuff and spring clean your area in your house. You do NOT wear that t-shirt from 5th grade anymore. And those cleats haven’t fit for two years! It’ll make you feel so much less cluttered and give you energy to start this new season. Your mornings will go so much easier too if you know where your stuff is!

9) GET CREATIVE

Get out those paints, coloring books, drawing paper, beads, clay, whatever you can find, and get creative! You can also use your creative mind to build something like a bird house or a flower planter. Try to spend at least 5 minutes a day being creative, even if it’s just sketching something or writing a quick story or poem. Maybe it’s preparing a garden or a new recipe! Just, create! Plus, did you know it’s great for your mental health?

10) GET OUTSIDE

If the weather will let you, get outside and enjoy some sunshine. The sun gives you Vitamin D, which is SO good for your health and we are all desperately needing it after a long winter. You can go for walks, explore your own yard, prepare your yard for spring by picking up sticks and finding everything that was under the piles and piles of snow. You can pick up trash around town. You can even just sit outside, close your eyes, and breathe in that fresh air.

No matter what you’re up to this Spring Break, just remember to make every day count. Do stuff that makes your life better every single day, and say no to anything that will make it worse. Protect your mind, your heart, and your body from anything that might interefere with your ability to be who you dream to be.

Why? Because You MATTER.

Happy Spring Break everyone!
