Prayer room

This room exists to remind every person who enters: God always has time for a moment with you. You are welcome here.

The Prayer Room is a quiet space set apart for reflection, prayer, and care. Open to students during Open Room Hours and available to the community by reservation, it offers a calm environment where individuals can pause, breathe, and be present with God in prayer.

How the Space Is Used

During Open Room Hours (Students Only)

  • Individual prayer and quiet reflection (one person at a time)

  • Use of written prayer prompts or guided resources

  • A calm alternative to louder, more social spaces for focus on God’s presence.

The Prayer Room is intentionally designed for single-occupancy use only. It is not used for socializing, group activity, or private hangouts. Clear expectations and signage will protect the room as a place of peace, safety, and trust.

Outside Open Room Hours (Community Use)

  • Individual prayer time use by reservation

  • Quiet use during special events or gatherings

Community use is available by reservation in 30-minute time slots, allowing equitable access while preserving the quiet, reflective nature of the space. This structure ensures the room remains welcoming, accessible, and well stewarded. People may reserve multiple time slots.

Hospitality in Practice

Hospitality in the Prayer Room is expressed through intentional calm and care.

  • The room is designed to feel warm and comfortable.

  • A comfortable chair allows for focused prayer time.

  • Lighting and materials support focus and rest.

  • Prayer prompts are invitational rather than directive.

For some students, this may be the first time they have access to a quiet space where they can spend one on one time with God. With guided use, they can learn to make space for prayer in their own spaces.

Prayer as Priority

Prayer is foundational to the life and rhythms of Pleasantville Youth Initiative.

The Prayer Room supports:

  • Regular individual prayer by students

  • Community prayer gatherings and prayer teams

  • Trained Prayer Ministers offering care during events

  • Ongoing prayer for local youth, schools, and families

This room anchors the building spiritually, reinforcing that care for the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—is central to PvilleYI’s mission.

Sustainability & Stewardship

The Prayer Room is intentionally structured for single-occupancy use and scheduled access. Outside Open Room Hours, the space may be reserved in 30-minute increments for aligned community use by pastors, counselors, prayer ministers, and individuals seeking quiet prayer or reflection.

While not a primary revenue-generating space, this reservation model supports responsible stewardship by:

  • Preventing overuse or misuse of the room

  • Ensuring fair access for the community

  • Preserving the calm, restorative nature of the space

This approach allows the Prayer Room to remain available, cared for, and sustainable long-term.

Outcomes Supported

  • Increased confidence in personal prayer

  • Emotional regulation and stress reduction

  • Spiritual care and formation

  • Crisis support and grounding

  • Increased access to prayer and pastoral presence

  • A sense of safety, dignity, and belonging
