100 Students Attend Middle School Dance 2025

What a night!

On October 3, 2025, PvilleYI hosted our annual Middle School Homecoming Dance for 7th and 8th Grade Students. 100 students attended the event. Kids arrived to smiling volunteers who were ready to greet them at the sign-in table. They danced the night away while enjoying snacks, drinks, and photo booths with their friends!

We have to give a shout out to this group of students. They were so very respectful, kind, and a joy to be around! One of our goals is always to fill the room with laughter, and we met that goal easily.

We’d also like to recognize our Intern, Addie Koenig, for the hard work she did planning this event’s theme. She worked with a budget she helped develop, and chose decorations and details to make this event extra special.

This event, like all our youth events, was free for students to attend and participate in!

If you would like to donate to help us continue offering safe spaces for teens to socialize and interact, your generosity would be much appreciated! You can do so here.

One of our favorite weeks of the year: HOMECOMING! We were so excited to participate again in our small town parade and cheer on the Trojans throughout the week!

Middle School Back to School Night

On August 22nd, 2024, PvilleYI partnered with Pleasantville Middle School to host a welcome back to school event during their back to school night.

We provided refreshments, resources, and gifts for incoming 7th and 8th graders.

Resources included tips on parenting middle schoolers, information on developmental stages, information about local organizations and opportunities, and more.

We also brought in a display of our recommended products for students of this age, based on feedback from families and our own experiences raising teens! (We get no incentive to do this)

Each student received a welcome back from us full of fun items we know middle schoolers love!

We had a great time partnering with the school and welcoming students back to a new year, and we were honored to help ease parents into a new chapter of parenthood as well.

Middle School Dance Night 2021

What a FUN time we had at the Middle School Dance Night!

85% of Pleasantville’s 7th and 8th graders attended. We are blown away and humbled by that!

Teens enjoyed dance music, orange crush slushes, a mountain of Little Debbie snack cakes, every kind of Mountain Dew known to man, and of course we had water and bananas available, too!

Thank you to the City of Pleasantville for allowing us to use the Memorial Hall for this fun event!

We also want to thank Cass Lester at Central Iowa DJ for keeping the night humming along with awesome dance tunes.

And another big shout out to Bruce at Celebrate Church in Knoxville for letting us borrow the slushy machine!

Middle School Dance Night 2019

On September 27th, 2019, 7th and 8th graders in Pleasantville danced the night away at the Memorial Hall. We had almost 80 youth attend this high energy event.

We supplied heaps of hostess snacks, every Mountain Dew flavor known to man, and of course water and bananas. We love the reaction we get when kids come to the snack table with their little velcro wallets or lanyard money clips. They shyly ask us how much an oatmeal cream pie and a Dr. Pepper is. When we happily tell them, “its free!”, they don’t believe us at first! Their eyes light up as they yell “Thank you!”. We just love that!

The feedback we received from the kids was overwhelmingly great. They loved the music selection. Cass went out of his way to find songs kids requested, even searching out the censored versions of certain requested songs to make sure the music we played was appropriate.

We had many opportunities to get to know the kids who attended. We made sure we told them how much we cared about them, and how much we believe they matter. We reminded them that God loves them, and cares for them too.

We also gave away a 1lb container of FLARP!, which for those who don’t know, is basically a fart noise maker and middle school kids lose their minds over it. Tommy Booth was the lucky winner!

We had a fantastic night and we are looking forward to getting to know these wonderful kids more and more!

Thank you to our volunteers: Eric Goodale, Chelsea Bender, Autumn Fennewald, Michael and Jennie Koenig, Mike and Emily Caulkins, and Chad and Stacy Rowson. Thank you to the City of Pleasantville for the use of the Memorial Hall. Thank you to Cass Lester for his DJ services. Thanks Pleasantville Schools for helping us spread the word.
